Electroville is a partner in Abilitynet’s “Switched on Communities” Project.
We are available to help voluntary organisations help disabled clients and staff use their computers more effectively.
ONLINE ASSESSMENT TOOL:
A simple questionnaire that will help your current and future service users to determine whether they need any changes applying to their computer set up to make it easier for them to use. This could be screen settings, keyboard, mouse or software. A useful report is produced at the end to print off and keep.
Find this at http://www.abilitynet.org.uk/assessment/index.php
FACT SHEETS & SKILL SHEETS:
These simple to follow sheets tell you exactly how to make simple changes to your computer, such as Filter Keys, Windows Accessibility, larger mouse pointers, etc. Also plenty of information on various disabilities and how to support them using technology. Find these at http://www.abilitynet.org.uk/soc/easypc.htm .
MOUSE MATS:
We hold a stock of mouse mats with lots of useful keyboard shortcuts to keep mouse input to a minimum.
ASSESSMENTS:
We are supported by Abilitynet so if we find that a user needs some extra support, we can refer them to AbilityNet who will carry out a full assessment to determine their needs. This could be remotely via the internet, or face-to-face.
They will meet with the individual, have a friendly chat, determine their computer needs, trial some recommendations and write a full report making recommendations. They can even lend them recommended items from their loan bank, so they can trial them at their own leisure.
LOAN BANK:
We have a stock of adaptive kit (such as adaptive mice, keyboards, switches) which can be tried out at our Dewsbury site. We can also get other equipment from the Abilitynet loan bank.
For details of what is available in AbilityNet’s loan bank, have a look at WIKI page at http://abilitynet.wetpaint.com . Just scroll through the site pages to hardware, software, physical needs, communication, vision and learning disability for a guide of what is available.
